Philippine Airlines Company
Philippine Airlines is one of the first in Asia’s aviation industry and aims to serve as a partner in nation-building.
Philippine Airlines Company serves not just the Filipinos but the whole world through its wide route network span of 31 foreign cities and 21 domestic airports in the Philippines.
Philippine Airlines has higher "published fares" than the other domestic carriers, but their planes are newer, better safety record and considering the discount "add-on" when you buy a trans-pacific ticket, it really is a good value.
All PAL international and domestic flights now fly in and out of the new Centenial Terminal II in Manila and makes it very convenient not to change terminal when traveling on PAL internationally connecting to PAL domestic.
Very convenient for Cebu and Davao passengers to check luggage from the U.S. to their final destination and not have to claim it in Manila.
Service excellence is one of the main and more important aspects of aviation that the Philippine Airlines is very proud of. They have won the hearts of travelers around the world through their excellent and world-class service.
Passengers’ opinions have almost always been about the quality and excellence of the service that they received when they flew by Philippine Airlines.
First class passenger Steve Harmer says that “[the] [s]taff were very courteous on all flights [and] younger staff were very friendly…” when asked about his flight to Manila from Vancouver on February of the previous year.
Another happy passenger, Anthony Gob, claims: “Flight attendants hospitable, smiling and very efficient. [There’s a] pretty generous snack for this flight.” when he was asked about his round-trip flight from Manila to Calgary in economy class.
Based on the opinions by these satisfied passengers, it’s safe to say that Philippine Airlines is fulfilling its goal of service excellence for its flyers and upholding their mission of becoming a partner in nation-building in the process.
Furthermore, Philippine Airlines does not forget to give back to the community that helped it reach the point where it is now. It opened a charity called Philippine Airlines Foundation (PAL Foundation). It is the community relations arm of Philippine Airlines, Asia's First Airline and an accredited disaster relief, crisis intervention and welfare organization.
The PAL Foundation provides PAL Medical Travel Grants. These Medical Grants enables the less-fortunate families to go for medical treatment as charity or service patients, if they have serious health conditions. Of course, the Philippine Airlines Foundation prioritizes the poorest and the weakest members (to say the least) of the society, namely, the children, the differently abled, and the elderly.
Philippine Airlines was founded in February of 1941 by a group of businessmen, and was operational a month after. It was a private organization back then until September of the same year when government investment paved the way for its nationalization.
There had been much controversy about who was the real owner of Philippine Airlines or majority shareholder. The company was always being nationalized and then being privatized again after a few years.
However, in 1995, when Lucio C. Tan, the majority shareholder of PR Holdings (who was the majority shareholder of Philippine Airlines from 1992), became the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company.
Four years later, it opened the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal Airport, which was named the Centennial Terminal.
Right now, amidst the Asian financial crisis from 1997 to 2001, Philippine Airlines is still expanding in terms of hubs, destination cities, and fleet size. Earlier this year, PAL is evaluating wide-bodied aircrafts to expand its North American routes.
