Philippine Military Academy
Courage Integrity and Loyalty
"Courage, Integrity and Loyalty", this is he the motto of the Philippine Military Academy. The institution has been undoubtedly and proven by the years of forming great leaders with idealism working for the good of the country. The Philippine Military Academy is the school of a number of courageous men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, respected high ranking political leaders and heads of various sectors of the government. Most of the officers of the military come from the Philippine Military Academy.
The Philippine Military Academy was created by virtue of the decree issued by then Philippine President Emilio Aguinaldo and was named "Academia Military" on October 25, 1898 at Malolos Bulucan. The military institution was tasked to build soldiers that immediately after graduation will be commissioned to the Armed Forces of the Philippines. This precedessor of the Philippine Military Academy was temporarily closed on January 20, 1899 due to the hostility brought about by the American occupation.
Three years after the academy was reestablished on February 17, 1905 at the walled city of Intramuros and was eventually relocated to Baguio city initially at Camp Henry T Allen, and subsequently at the Teachers Camp.
December 21, 1936 the National Defense Act formally created the Philippine Military Academy and authorized to confer a Bachelors Degree of Science among those graduates after successfully completing the four year course. However, the World War II affected the services provided by the academy. Training in the academy was for the meantime seized and students were graduated earlier in the course and commissioned immediately sending them into war torn Bataan to defend it from foreign invaders. This was just one of the many chapters in history of the institution that proves the Philippine Military Academy graduates even with the lesser chance of getting out of Bataan alive they defended, fought and kept its position. They gave up their lives for the people protecting them from the aggressors by keeping main defense position of the central Luzon. On May 5 1947, the Philippine Military Academy was eventually reopened at the now present site called Fort Del Pilar in Loakan. The Philippine Military Academy is now located a few kilometers from downtown of Baguio City.
Through many years with the country's history of economic, political turmoil including the occupation of the Americans in World War II the Philippine Military Academy survived and is still existed with its dauntless aphorism. On 1993 the Academy transformed its curriculum into a Tri-Service academy which introduced specialized, branched-of-service specific courses in the last two years of the course. This would enable the graduates of the Philippine Military Academy competent at every specific branch of service immediately after graduation. Women was also being accepted at the academy at present training hand in hand with the men without any maltreatment and respected the same way as the opposite sex. The academy also expanded infrastructure and facilities that would help students carry out the training more easily.
The Philippine Military Academy is a school providing numerous benefits to its students. Students earns money provided by the academy along with the free tuition fee and amenities for the cadets. Graduates are then privileged to serve in the armed forces.
The Philippine Military Academy is also a popular tourist spot in Baguio. If you are lucky, you could even see the cadets on the training ground when you visit the Philippine Military Academy. By Baguio standars, however, the academy is far from the center of the city but it's still worthwhile visiting it. The cadets from the Philippine Military academy join local parades in Baguio. Kids look forward to seeing the cadets since they always appear in Gala attire, they walk straight, carrying themselves elegantly and in a remarkably behaved manner. This bespeaks of the fact that the Philippine Military Academy is truly an institution breeding the best of great men and women.
