Sites to Visit
Bohol is one of the major tourist spot in the Philippines, being endowed with natural treasures like gushing springs, rivers, waterfalls, sandy white beaches, natural coral havens, exotic marine life, caves, mountains rich in wildlife and rare flora.
Other attractions are ancestral houses, medieval and massive old-stone church structures, watchtowers, and forts. Almost all of the Island’s 47 towns have old-stone church structures with frescoes.
Baclayon Church, the 402 years old stone church of the Immaculate Conception was established in 1595 and is reputed to be the oldest in the Philippines.
Its greatest pride is the world-renowned Chocolate Hills – thousands of cone-shaped hills (1,001 to be exact) spreading out on a natural open plateau, looking like mystic mounds.
Home to big white whales and dolphins, Pamilacan Island is a tourist destination for whale and dolphin watching. The whales are friendly. You can dive and touch them.
Balicasag and Cabilao Islands are scuba diving sites, having rich and varied marine life, colored coral flowers and rocks.
Bohol is home to the smallest primate, the tarsier (tarsius philippininsis). It has enormous eyes and long feet that have extremely elongated tarsus bones. It looks like a small monkey, the size of an adult palm and quite harmless.
Tarsiers in captivity can be found in the town of Loboc and is now a tourist attraction.
They are quite tame and friendly so you can touch or hold them and allow them to run nimbly up and down your arm.
There are plenty of sites to visit. The hotel staff can help in setting up tour itineraries.
