Philippine Airlines has higher "published fares" than the other domestic carriers, but their planes are newer, better safety record and considering the discount "add-on" when you buy a trans-pacific ticket, it really is a good value.

Asian Spirit

New small airline flies to out of the way destinations and uses small turbo-prop planes. They took over many of the PAL routes that were dropped when PAL closed in 1998. They aee currently expanding and adding new routes and aircraft. www.asianspirit.com

Air Philippines

Not the same as Philippine Airlines. Air Philippines has very competitive fares to major markets, but uses older jets and has been grounded several times for not meeting safety standards.

Cebu Pacific

The leader in low fares for Phlippine domestic flights, Cebu Padific uses older DC-9 aircraft and has had several fatal air crashes. You can reserve on-line and they do offer free shuttle service from Manila International Airport Terminal to their domestic terminal. www.cubupacificair.com

Mindanao Express

Flies from Cebu to most cities on Mindanao. Uses small turbo-prop planes and with no competition, fares tend to be high, but sure beats the long slow boat trip, or God forbid, the bone-jolting bus trip.www.mindanao.com
